The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its counter-terrorism operations with a fresh wave of airstrikes that destroyed a terrorist enclave and neutralised several insurgents in Borno state.
The operation, carried out on July 10 by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, targeted terrorist positions in Yaganari within the Gezuwa general area after credible intelligence indicated renewed insurgent activities.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the director of public relations and information.
According to the statement, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions confirmed the presence of terrorist structures and logistics hubs before the targets were engaged.
“The targets were subsequently engaged in a series of precision strikes, leading to the destruction of terrorist infrastructure and the neutralisation of several terrorists,” the statement said.
NAF noted that the successful operation further weakened the terrorists’ operational capability, describing it as another significant breakthrough in the military’s sustained offensive against insurgent groups.
Commending the personnel involved in the operation, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, praised their professionalism and dedication to the fight against terrorism.
“The Nigerian Air Force will continue to deliver decisive air power in concert with surface forces to hunt down, disrupt and destroy terrorist elements wherever they may seek refuge,” Aneke said.
He added, “We remain committed to ensuring that terrorists have no safe haven and no opportunity to recover their capabilities.”
The Air Chief reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces to consolidating recent gains in ongoing operations aimed at restoring peace and security across the country.
