Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has relieved six commissioners of their appointments in a cabinet reshuffle aimed at injecting fresh ideas into his administration as it enters its final phase.
The affected commissioners headed the Ministries of Works, Women Affairs, Information, Lands, Science and Technology, as well as Security and Sundry Matters.
The Secretary to the State Government, Labaran Magaji, announced the development while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting held in Lafia on Tuesday.
Magaji said the decision was part of efforts to reposition the administration for improved service delivery and was not prompted by dissatisfaction with the performance of the affected officials.
According to him, the commissioners were asked to step aside to create room for new ideas that would help the government fulfil its mandate before the expiration of its tenure.
He commended the former commissioners for their dedication and contributions to the development of the state, stressing that the reshuffle should not be interpreted as a verdict on their performance.
“The government appreciates their commitment, efficiency and hard work. This adjustment is intended to rejig the system, inject fresh energy into the administration and ensure that the mandate given to Governor Abdullahi Sule is fully delivered within the remaining period of this administration,” Magaji said.
The SSG added that the affected commissioners remained valued members of the administration and could be considered for other responsibilities in the future.
He disclosed that names of the new commissioners would be announced through the appropriate channels.
Meanwhile, the Executive Council also reviewed strategies to increase the state’s internally generated revenue by maximising investments in the lithium value chain.
Magaji said the deliberations followed the recent inauguration of one of Africa’s largest lithium processing plants in Nasarawa by President Bola Tinubu, who was represented at the event by Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
According to him, the government is developing measures to ensure the state derives maximum economic benefits from the growing lithium processing industry, adding that details of the council’s decisions would be made public at the appropriate time.
The reshuffle comes as the Sule administration intensifies efforts to consolidate its programmes and accelerate development projects ahead of the end of its tenure.
