The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, has announced that no confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, has been recorded in Nigeria amid ongoing outbreaks reported in parts of Africa.
The development was disclosed in a public health advisory posted on the official account of the NCDC.
According to the agency, the update follows the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and a reported imported case in Uganda.
The NCDC described Ebola Virus Disease as a severe viral illness transmitted through direct contact with infected bodily fluids or contaminated materials.
The agency said common symptoms include fever, headache, weakness, muscle pain, vomiting and diarrhoea, adding that severe cases may involve unexplained bleeding.
According to the advisory, the NCDC has continued to strengthen disease surveillance, laboratory preparedness, infection prevention measures and public awareness efforts across the country.
The agency also advised Nigerians to remain calm, maintain proper hand hygiene, avoid misinformation and report unusual illnesses through appropriate public health channels.
“Together, we can strengthen preparedness and protect public health,” the advisory stated.
