Viral videos spark outrage as singer’s home plunged into darkness amid controversy over billing practices
There was commotion on Thursday after officials of a power distribution company, popularly known as NEPA, reportedly stormed the residence of popular Nigerian singer, Duncan Mighty, and disconnected electricity supply without prior notice.
Videos circulating on social media captured the moment the officials arrived at the Port Harcourt residence of the music star and allegedly cut off power, triggering tension and heated exchanges at the scene.
Eyewitness accounts in the viral clips showed residents confronting the officials, questioning the sudden disconnection and demanding explanations over what they described as a lack of due process.
The incident quickly drew public attention online, with many Nigerians expressing outrage over what they perceived as arbitrary disconnection practices by electricity providers. Others, however, urged caution, noting that such actions are sometimes linked to unresolved billing disputes.
As of press time, neither Duncan Mighty nor the electricity distribution company involved had issued an official statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether the disconnection was due to outstanding payments or if due notice had been served.
The development has further reignited conversations around electricity billing, consumer rights, and the accountability of power distribution companies across the country.
