The Federal Government has adopted 112 as Nigeria’s single national, toll-free emergency number, in a move aimed at simplifying access to emergency services across the country.
Under the new system, Nigerians will be able to dial 112 to seek help during emergencies including fires, road crashes, medical crises and security threats.
The government said the initiative is expected to replace fragmented emergency hotlines and improve coordination, allowing emergency agencies to respond more quickly when lives are at risk.
The announcement has, however, generated mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media, with some welcoming the move while others questioned how effective the system would be in practice.
