The Nigerian Army has intensified efforts to enhance operational effectiveness and institutional performance with the introduction of a standardised evaluation framework aimed at improving accountability and professionalism across its formations and units.
This was contained in a press release issued by Colonel Appolonia Aniele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, on Tuesday, April 29, 2026, following a sensitisation seminar organised by the Army Headquarters Department of Standards and Evaluation at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites, Asokoro, Abuja.
According to the statement, the seminar brought together senior officers and stakeholders to deepen understanding of structured performance assessment mechanisms designed to strengthen discipline and improve operational outcomes.
Declaring the seminar open, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, represented by the Military Secretary (Army), Maj Gen Everest Okoro, described the initiative as a key milestone in the Army’s drive for institutional excellence.
He noted that the Department of Standards and Evaluation serves as the Army’s quality assurance arm, responsible for enforcing compliance with established benchmarks, conducting combat-readiness assessments, and evaluating operational activities across units.
“These measures are intended to identify strengths, address gaps, and ensure continuous improvement in operational performance,” the statement quoted him as saying.
Earlier, the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation, Maj Gen Bobby Ugiagbe, stated that the seminar was designed to promote the systematic application of standards across the Nigerian Army to enhance discipline, professionalism and effectiveness.
He added that the initiative would support the institutionalisation of standardised evaluation practices aimed at improving overall performance outcomes.
The release further noted that the seminar reflects the Nigerian Army’s commitment to entrenching a culture of accountability, precision and continuous improvement in line with global best practice.
