1. Osun State Police Command on Saturday arrested the state Commissioner for Environment, Mayowa Anjorin, for allegedly masterminding a gun attack on members of the All Progressives Congress during the latest eruption of violence in the state ahead of Saturday’s off cycle governorship election. Also in police net on account of the incident is an operative of the Osun State Security Network Agency, Amotekun.
2. The Police Command in Benue State has arrested five Pakistani nationals with 35 mobile phones during separate intelligence-led operations in Otukpo and Ugbokolo. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Aondongu Orchia, made the disclosure in a statement in Makurdi on Saturday.
3. Operatives of the Department of State Services have arrested three more persons suspected to be members of the kidnapping ring that abducted the Dean of Agriculture, Nasarawa State University, Prof. Samuel Avengbe Okunsebor. The university don was rescued by DSS operatives two days after some gunmen kidnapped him on July 15, 2026, at Mile Uku, a border community between Lafia and Nasarawa-Eggon local government areas.
4. Tears and anguish enveloped Efeyi community in Ugboju District of Otukpo Local Government Area, LGA, Benue State, on Saturday, as residents conducted a mass burial for 16 persons allegedly killed by suspected armed herdsmen. The victims were reportedly killed when the attackers invaded the community in the early hours of July 28, throwing residents into panic and forcing many to flee for safety.
5. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Saturday, took a swipe at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike, over his remarks on former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George. The party, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Dr Christopher Odianarewo, said Wike’s outburst raises more questions than it answers and further exposes the depth of his obsession with Chief George.
6. Thirteen people were rescued after a residential building collapsed in the Dan Dishe area of Kwanar Yashi, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, early Saturday morning. It was gathered that 16 people were injured in the incident. The Kano State Fire Service said its Emergency Response Unit received a distress call about the incident at about 4:32am and immediately mobilised personnel from its headquarters to the scene.
7. Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has accused the leadership of the All Progressives Congress in the state of importing and harbouring election result hackers at a hotel in Osogbo, Osun State. The party subsequently called on security agencies to act swiftly and apprehend those involved in the alleged illegal operation.
8. The family of Rev. William Okoye, Founder and General Overseer of All Christians Fellowship Mission, has fixed his burial for Oct. 9 in Agulau, Anambra. Okoye served as Chaplain of the Aso Villa Chapel during the administrations of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
9. An 85-year-old community leader, Mr Reuben Owie, has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Iguosa, near Okhunhun, Benin City. Owie, who was the Secretary of Iyowa Community, was reportedly attacked at about 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 2, by two men, according to the police command in Edo.
10. The Nigerian Navy has recovered approximately 24,000 litres of product suspected to be stolen crude oil in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers. This is contained in an operational report by the Director, Naval Information, Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, made available on Saturday in Abuja.
