The Ukhomuyio Concerned Citizens have issued a blistering, no-holds-barred statement against the Edo State Attorney General, Roland Otaru, accusing him of brazenly undermining the rule of law and attempting to weaponize the justice system against the people of Okpella.
In what reads as a declaration of resistance, the group praised the High Court judge in Auchi for refusing to bow to what they described as “coordinated pressure and institutional intimidation” allegedly driven by the Attorney General to force through what they insist is a “manufactured and malicious charge,” even in the glaring absence of proper legal procedure.
“This is not just misconduct—it is a dangerous abuse of power,” the statement declared.
The group said it is both shocking and unacceptable that a man once celebrated for his legal pedigree has, in their words, “chosen the path of impunity,” abandoning the neutrality expected of his office to pursue what they allege is a clearly biased agenda. They warned that such actions threaten not only the fragile peace in Okpella but also the credibility of the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
According to the group, rather than act as a guardian of justice, Otaru has “inserted himself directly into a contentious traditional crisis, taking sides and pushing a narrative that offends both law and conscience.”
They pointed to a formal petition dated March 25, 2026—already before the Attorney General—which they say detailed glaring procedural breaches and demanded an immediate withdrawal of the charges. Ignoring this, they alleged, is proof of “a deliberate and calculated attempt to twist the legal process to predetermined ends.”
“What is unfolding is not governance—it is manipulation,” the group stated, warning against any attempt to implicate the governor in actions they described as “legally reckless and morally indefensible.”
In even stronger terms, the Ukhomuyio Concerned Citizens alleged that the Attorney General’s engagements with individuals including Mike Sado and Hansen Aimofumhe point to “a troubling pattern of backroom alignments and vested interests.” They claimed to possess “compelling evidence,” including recordings and documented exchanges, which they say will expose the full extent of the alleged compromise.
The group vowed to escalate the matter without hesitation, confirming that formal petitions are being prepared for the National Judicial Council and the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee.
“No office is above accountability. No title is a shield for injustice,” the statement emphasized.
Rejecting any attempt to suppress dissent, the group warned that Okpella is not a territory where “state-backed coercion” can thrive unchecked, insisting that the community will resist any effort to distort its traditional structures for political convenience.
They called on all sons and daughters of Okpella, both at home and abroad, to remain calm but resolute, stressing that this is a defining moment for the defense of their heritage.
“This is bigger than individuals—this is about justice, dignity, and the soul of our people,” they said.
In a closing note that underscored their resolve, the group declared:
“We will confront this injustice head-on. We will expose every hidden hand. And we will pursue accountability relentlessly, through every lawful channel, until justice is not just demanded—but delivered.”
