“One Of My Wives Died During Childbirth”- Jide Kosoko Speaks On His Marital Life

Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has shared personal details about his family, health and decades-long career in the entertainment industry.

During an interview with actress Biola Bayo, Kosoko revealed that he has lost three wives, including the mother of his daughter, Bidemi Kosoko, who died during childbirth.

Recalling the painful experience, the actor said, “I lost my wife through childbirth; that’s Bidemi’s mother. I have lost three wives.”

The veteran actor also offered advice to parents, urging them to ensure that all their children feel equally loved and valued, regardless of their individual differences.

“Treat your children equally; let them know they’re equal in your mind,” he advised.

On his health, Kosoko disclosed that he developed diabetes in 1996. He explained that living with the condition for several years has helped him become more familiar with his health and how to manage it.

“I became diabetic in 1996; I understand my health better than some doctors do,” he stated.

Speaking about his journey in the entertainment industry, Kosoko revealed that he began theatre at the age of 10 in 1964 before establishing his own theatre group in 1972.

Reflecting on his contributions to the industry, he expressed confidence in his status as one of its early trailblazers.

“I started theatre at age 10, in 1964, and formed my own group in 1972. I can confidently say that I am one of the pioneers of this industry,” he said.

The actor also discussed the evolution of social media and how entertainers have adapted to its growing influence. According to him, industry practitioners were initially wary of the platform but have since discovered ways to use it to their advantage.

However, Kosoko criticised some entertainers for the way they present themselves online, questioning whether provocative dancing and questionable language were necessary to gain attention.

“When social media was coming, we were afraid. But now, we’re using it to our advantage. Some use it to make a mockery of themselves. Must you shake your bumbum and talk about that jargon?” he asked.
