The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has thrown his weight behind the Iru Ekun Security Network with a N100 million cash donation and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to support its operations.
The monarch made the pledge on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, when Yoruba Nation advocate Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, led representatives of the security group on a courtesy visit to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Ooni’s Senior Media Officer, Sodiq Lawal, on behalf of the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare.
During the visit, Oba Ogunwusi described the Iru Ekun Security Network as a timely initiative aimed at responding to the security challenges confronting Yoruba communities.
According to the monarch, the network would complement existing security structures and contribute to efforts to protect lives and property across the region.
The Ooni also praised Sunday Igboho for his courage, resilience and continued commitment to the welfare of the Yoruba people. He maintained that genuine leadership is demonstrated through selfless service to the people.
“I commend Chief Sunday Igboho for taking a bold step towards strengthening community security. Protecting our people is a collective responsibility that transcends political, religious and ideological differences. Every initiative genuinely designed to preserve lives and maintain peace deserves encouragement and support,” the Ooni stated.
Oba Ogunwusi further noted that meaningful development could only thrive where communities enjoy peace and security. He urged people of Yoruba descent to see the preservation of peace and unity across Yorubaland as a collective responsibility.
The monarch also appealed to traditional rulers, business leaders, professionals, community stakeholders and Yoruba people around the world to support the Iru Ekun Security Network.
Describing Sunday Igboho as a courageous patriot, the Ooni said his efforts at a crucial period in Yoruba history would be remembered.
“Our strength lies in our unity. When we speak with one voice and work together, no force can undermine the peace and progress of Yorubaland. This is the time for all lovers of Yoruba culture and heritage to unite for a common purpose,” he added.
The Iru Ekun Security Network was founded by Sunday Igboho as part of efforts to tackle security concerns in Yoruba-speaking communities across South-West Nigeria.
