Minister of Works Dave Umahi has defended the Federal Government’s decision to borrow funds for infrastructure projects, insisting that the loans are being used to construct roads that will help tackle hunger and improve the economy.
Speaking during a recent engagement, Umahi dismissed criticisms over the government’s borrowing, arguing that the road projects are investments aimed at boosting economic activities and easing the hardship inherited by the current administration.
According to him, “When people say we’re borrowing, we’re borrowing to do all these roads. When people talk about hunger, we’re using these roads to fight the hunger we met on ground.”
The minister maintained that improved road infrastructure would enhance transportation, reduce the cost of moving goods, create jobs, and support food distribution across the country.
However, his remarks have triggered widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians questioning how road construction alone can address the country’s rising cost of living and food insecurity.
