The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the August 15 Osun election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has finally congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, while lamenting the killing of more than 38 members and supporters of his party during and after the poll.
Oyebamiji, however, called on Governor Adeleke to ensure the protection of lives and property, particularly during the post-election period, saying attacks, harassment and intimidation of APC members must stop.
The APC candidate spoke on Saturday in Osogbo while addressing party leaders, members and supporters on the outcome of the August 15 governorship election and preparations for the 2027 general election.
He recalled the killings of the former Chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, Hon. Remi Abass; APC Chairman in Atakumosa Local Government Area, Chief Gbenga Ogbara; and Mr. Dele Ayegbo, nephew of the Director-General of the APC 2026 Governorship Campaign Council, Hon. Wole Oke, among others.
Oyebamiji said more than 35 other members and supporters of the party were also killed in incidents of political violence.
He urged the Nigeria Police Force to thoroughly investigate the killings and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“With a heavy heart, I recall the gruesome killings of Hon. Remi Abass, former Chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, in Ikire; Chief Gbenga Ogbara, Chairman of the APC in Atakumosa Local Government Area; Mr. Dele Ayegbo, nephew of Hon. Wole Oke, Director-General of our 2026 Governorship Campaign Council; and more than 35 other victims.
“Consequently, I call on the Nigeria Police Force to thoroughly investigate these killings and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he said.
Oyebamiji extended his condolences to the families of those killed, assuring them of his continued solidarity and support.
In the spirit of democracy, Oyebamiji congratulated Adeleke on his victory in the election as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He urged the governor, whom he described as the Chief Security Officer of the state, to take necessary steps within his constitutional responsibility to protect the lives and property of residents.
Oyebamiji said, “I congratulate His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Executive Governor of Osun State, on his victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“At the same time, I call on Mr. Governor, as the Chief Security Officer of the state, to do everything within his constitutional responsibility to protect the lives and property of all citizens, particularly during this sensitive post-election period.”
He condemned what he described as continued killings, harassment and intimidation of APC members and supporters, alleging that some businesses were being attacked because of the perceived political affiliations of their owners.
According to him, such acts could undermine efforts to attract investments and create employment opportunities in the state.
“The senseless killings, harassment and intimidation of members and supporters of our party must therefore stop forthwith. Attacks on innocent citizens and their businesses must not be allowed to continue,” Oyebamiji said.
The APC candidate urged members of the party not to be discouraged by the outcome of the governorship election, saying the party would pursue justice and fairness through lawful and constitutional means.
He said the party had commenced consultations with leaders and stakeholders on its next line of action.
Oyebamiji also rallied APC members to begin mobilisation for the 2027 general election, particularly the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu.
He urged party members to close ranks, strengthen the party’s structures and work towards securing victory for Tinubu and other APC candidates contesting National Assembly and State Assembly seats in Osun.
“As we commence mobilisation and preparations for the re-election of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other candidates of our party in the general election, I humbly call on leaders, members and supporters of our party to rededicate yourselves to the task ahead,” he said.
“We must close ranks, strengthen our structures and work tirelessly to secure incontrovertible victories for Mr. President and all our candidates in Osun State.”
