“Our Culture And Tradition Are Not Diabolical”- Olamide Defends Yoruba Heritage

Nigerian rapper Olamide has spoken in defence of Yoruba culture and traditions, insisting that indigenous practices should not be labelled as evil or demonic.

The music star, who identifies strongly with his Yoruba heritage, maintained that traditional cultural practices should not automatically be condemned or misunderstood because of certain beliefs and perceptions.

Speaking on the subject, Olamide said he has no problem accepting traditional items such as black soap, stressing that he is proud of his cultural background.

“Our culture and tradition are not diabolical and should not be demonised. I’m a Yoruba boy; if you give me black soap, I will collect it,” he said.

His remarks highlight the importance of respecting cultural heritage and avoiding the tendency to associate indigenous Yoruba practices with negative spiritual beliefs.
