Former Lagos and Benue State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Ajani Owoseni (retd.), has resigned from his role as Special Adviser on Security to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
Owoseni also stepped down as the Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund (OYSSTF), ending his service in the state government with immediate effect.
His resignation was conveyed in a letter dated May 7, 2026, and addressed to Governor Makinde through the office of the Chief of Staff.
In the letter, the retired police commissioner expressed appreciation to the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve the people of Oyo State.
He stated that his positions also involved representing the state at the Forum of National and Subnational Security Officials in the Office of the National Security Adviser, as well as serving on the board of the Oyo State Security Network, also known as Amotekun.
Owoseni disclosed that details of the OYSSTF bank accounts where he served as a signatory had been attached to the letter, adding that he would be available to assist with any necessary transition process regarding the accounts.
He further assured the government of his readiness to offer professional advice on security-related matters whenever needed.
Part of the resignation letter read: “I wish to humbly inform Your Excellency of my decision to resign my appointments as the Special Adviser on Security and the Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund.
“I remain available to provide insight or professional opinion on issues relating to my stewardship and other security matters.”
He also prayed for continued success and divine guidance for Governor Makinde in leading the state.
Sources close to the development suggested that Owoseni’s resignation may be linked to his reported ambition to contest the Oyo State governorship election in 2027.
There are also indications that the former police commissioner could unveil a new political platform in the coming days.
