The Oyo State Government has imposed a 16-hour curfew in 10 local government areas of the state, with effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Governor Seyi Makinde approved the curfew, which affects local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, the restriction will run from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. daily and will remain in force for an initial period of 48 hours.
The affected local government areas are Oriire, Oorelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.
“The curfew, which is between 4 PM and 8 AM, and lasts for 48 hours in the first instance, affects local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park,” the statement read.
Oriire Local Government has its headquarters in Ikoyi-Ile, while Oorelope is headquartered in Igboho. Irepo’s headquarters is in Kisi, Saki West in Saki, Saki East in Ago-Amodu, Atisbo in Tede, Itesiwaju in Otu, Iseyin in Iseyin, Olorunsogo in Igbeti and Atiba in Offa-Meta.
The declaration of curfew comes after over one month that dozens of schoolchildren and their teachers were abducted from Ahoro-Esinle and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
