The Oyo State Government has demolished a three-bedroom bungalow in Ibadan where kidnappers allegedly held captive Olaide John-Paul, the sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, alongside her twin sons.
The structure, located in the Lako Community along Aiyegun-Anaye Road in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, was pulled down on Monday as part of what authorities described as a decisive action against criminal hideouts in the state.
John-Paul and her sons were abducted on June 3 while she was reportedly taking the children to school. Armed men ambushed them and whisked them away to the building, which was later identified as their place of captivity.
They were, however, rescued on Saturday after spending three days in the hands of their abductors, in an operation that also led to the arrest of several suspects linked to the crime.
Following their release, the Oyo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of four suspects connected to the abduction. The police said the gang had conducted weeks of surveillance on the family, attempted to infiltrate their household by recruiting an insider, and tracked their movements before executing the kidnapping.
According to the police, two of the suspects were killed during a rescue operation, while a suspected gang member, identified as Wale Abolalewa, also known as “Oloro,” who had been on the command’s watchlist for related crimes, was apprehended.
Security sources said the demolition of the building formed part of broader efforts by the state government and security agencies to dismantle criminal enclaves used for kidnappings and ransom-related operations across Ibadan and its environs.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to sustaining pressure on kidnapping networks, warning that properties found to be used as operational bases for violent crimes would be sealed or demolished in line with state security directives.
The incident has further heightened concerns over rising cases of abduction in parts of Oyo State, even as security agencies intensify surveillance and intelligence-led operations to curb the menace.
