A fresh controversy has emerged over the ownership of Patson Estate, formerly part of a larger property earmarked for the development of Linkana Hotels in Independence Layout, Enugu State.
Supporters of former Governor of old Anambra State, Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo, have accused Mr. Basil Ogbuanu of unlawfully laying claim to the entire estate despite allegedly purchasing only a parcel of land from former Enugu State Governor, Senator Jim Nwobodo.
According to the supporters, Ogbuanu expanded his claim beyond the land he originally acquired and proceeded to develop parts of the estate without authorization. They further alleged that the development later became a hideout for criminal elements, including suspected kidnappers, prompting security agencies to intervene, demolish structures, and make arrests.
The group also claimed that the dispute dates back several decades and accused Ogbuanu of breaching previous agreements related to the property. They alleged that he has embarked on a campaign to tarnish the reputation of Dr. Nwobodo and his family while the matter remains before the courts.
The supporters maintained that the estate remains the rightful property of Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo and urged Ogbuanu to await the outcome of ongoing legal proceedings and government recertification processes concerning the land.
They further alleged that certain political actors are sponsoring efforts to discredit the former governor through the controversy.
However, Ogbuanu’s position on the allegations was not immediately available at the time of filing this report. The ownership dispute over Patson Estate remains subject to judicial determination.
