The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu, a public commentator and social media influencer, in Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that Mr Danshagamu was reportedly attacked at his residence in Gaida Quarters on Monday night and later found in a pool of blood, with reports that his throat had allegedly been slit.
The attack prompted a security response after the Police received a distress call from the Gaida Vigilante Group.
In a statement on Wednesday, the spokesman of the command, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the Police received the distress call at about 11pm on Monday.
According to him, the commander of the Gaida Vigilante Group reported that unknown hoodlums had forcibly entered the deceased’s residence and attacked him with sharp objects.
Mr Kiyawa said operatives of the Kumbotso Police Division immediately responded to the scene and rushed the victim to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, for emergency medical attention.
He said the victim was, however, confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor.
The spokesman said following the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Divisional Police Officer, in collaboration with tactical units of the command and community stakeholders, launched an intelligence-driven operation.
He said the operation led to the arrest of two suspects allegedly linked to the killing.
According to him, the suspects are currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend other persons who may have participated in the crime.
“Statements are being obtained, and forensic procedures are ongoing to establish the full facts and motive behind the attack,” Mr Kiyawa said.
The spokesman said the Commissioner of Police expressed deep concern over the incident and extended his condolences to the family of the deceased.
He quoted Bakori as reiterating the command’s commitment to identifying, arresting and prosecuting perpetrators of violent crimes in accordance with the law.
“The Kano State Police Command will not relent in its mandate to protect lives and property.
“We assure the good people of Kano that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion,” the CP was quoted as saying.
Mr Kiyawa also commended the Gaida Vigilante Group for providing timely information that facilitated the Police response.
He said the development underscored the importance of community policing and collaboration between security agencies and residents in preventing and tackling crime.
The spokesman said investigation into the incident was ongoing and that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
Meanwhile, Mr Kiyawa said additional patrols and intelligence-gathering operations had been deployed to Gaida and surrounding areas to maintain law and order and prevent any breakdown of peace.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the Police through the nearest station or its emergency lines.
