Police arrest 79 suspects during Takutaha celebration in Kano

The Kano State Police Command says the 2026 Takutaha celebration was conducted peacefully across the state, with 79 suspects arrested and dangerous weapons and illicit drugs recovered during security operations.

The celebration, held on Tuesday, September 1, was monitored by security personnel deployed across the state as part of measures to ensure public safety.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the peaceful conduct of the celebration was achieved through coordinated, intelligence-led and proactive policing operations.

“The 2026 Takutaha Celebration held on 1st September 2026 was observed peacefully across the state,” the command said.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended residents for their cooperation, support and orderly conduct during the festivities.

The Command also acknowledged the contributions of the Kano State Government, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community stakeholders, sister security agencies and vigilante groups.

According to the police, 79 suspects were arrested during coordinated operations carried out by the Anti-Daba, Anti-Kidnapping and VCRU tactical units, as well as personnel from Ungogo, Sharada, Bachirawa, Rijiyar Lemo, Mandawari, Kwalli and Gwale police divisions.

The operations also led to the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs.

“All suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will be charged to court upon completion,” the Command said.

It further disclosed that another incident involving a casualty was reported and is currently under investigation.

The Command urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information on suspicious persons and activities.
