Police chief meets with herders, farmers over security breach in Abuja

“Maintain peace and refrain from any actions capable of reigniting tensions,” he advised the communities. The Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ahmed Sanusi, has met with farmers and herders in Dabiri and Paiko communities over a security breach.

The ‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‌Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, Josephine Adeh, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to her, the meeting was part of ongoing efforts to sustain peace, restore public confidence and prevent further escalation of tensions in the communities.

She quoted the CP as urging both parties to embrace dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence, as all disputes must be resolved through peaceful and lawful means rather than violence.

He warned against incitement, retaliation and any actions capable of disrupting public peace and security and called on the leaders to cooperate with the police.

He also enjoined the leaders to identify and hand over those responsible for the attacks to the police.

Mr Sanusi further urged the communities not to allow the actions of a few individuals to endanger their lives and security.

He assured residents that the situation was under control, adding that normalcy had been restored, with security measures strengthened to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

He urged residents of Dabiri village and neighbouring communities to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel deployed to the area, and enjoined law-abiding residents to return to their lawful businesses without fear.

“Maintain peace and refrain from any actions capable of reigniting tensions,” he advised the communities.
