Popular Anambra Spiritualist Arrested After Three Children Found Dead in Her Home

A female spiritualist has been arrested after three children were found dead inside her residence in Umuoduba Village, Ideani Community, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, while a fourth child was rescued alive and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

The children, believed to be between the ages of six and 15, were discovered unconscious in the suspect’s home. The survivor was rushed to the hospital following the intervention of the President General of Ideani Community, Chief Paul Okoye, and the Divisional Police Officer of the Ogidi Division.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday, August 5, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said officers responded immediately after receiving the report and transported all four children to the hospital. Three were confirmed dead by doctors, while the fourth remains in critical condition.

According to Ikenga, the suspect is currently in police custody, while the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has taken over the case for a thorough, intelligence-driven and evidence-based investigation.

He added that investigators hope to obtain the surviving child’s account once medically fit, as it could provide vital information about what happened. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The police extended condolences to the families of the victims and the Ideani community, urging residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information and allow investigators to conclude their work.
