The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Olufunmilola Disu, has conducted surprise welfare visits to police barracks in the Federal Capital Territory, providing support to officers’ families ahead of the association’s forthcoming national convention.
The outreach, which took place between July 14 and 15, 2026, covered Area C Police Barracks, Nyanya, and 44 PMF Barracks, Kuje.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Aniete Okokon Edem Iniedu, on Thursday, July 16, the POWA president and her management team moved through the markets at Area C Barracks without prior notice, engaging directly with women traders, widows, and spouses of police officers.
During the visits, Disu observed the challenges faced by police families, including poorly stocked shops and economic difficulties affecting their livelihoods.

The statement said selected beneficiaries received cash grants, business starter packs, and food items to help them restock their businesses and improve household welfare.
The beneficiaries, according to the statement, expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely support.
Speaking on the purpose of the unannounced visits, Disu said the approach was aimed at getting a firsthand understanding of the realities confronting police families.
“The visit was deliberately unannounced to capture an authentic picture of the realities confronting police families,” she said.
The POWA president added that “only by witnessing these challenges firsthand can POWA design and deliver support that truly addresses their needs.”
The outreach was carried out under the POWA CARES Initiative, which focuses on healthcare, welfare support, and economic empowerment for police families.
The initiative, according to the statement, aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON.
The welfare programme also serves as a prelude to the POWA National Convention scheduled for July 16–18, 2026, with the theme: “The Resilient Woman: Navigating Life’s Challenges with Strength, Purpose and Grace.”
The convention is expected to focus on healthcare, mental wellness, economic empowerment, and family support systems.
