Priests, Priestesses and Traditionalists Gather in Benin to Lay Curses on K!dnapper$, Cult!$t$ and Cr!m!nal$

Priests, priestesses and traditional worshippers in the Benin Kingdom have gathered to perform traditional rites and invoke curses against kidnappers, cultists and other criminals accused of fueling insecurity and unrest across the state.

The ceremony, which has attracted widespread attention on social media, was organised as a spiritual response to the growing concerns over kidnapping, violent crimes and other security challenges affecting residents.

Participants were seen carrying out traditional rituals while calling on the deities to bring judgment upon those involved in criminal activities and anyone aiding or protecting them.

See some of the reactions culled below:

@Ogadimw: “Benin people are so dumb. In 2026, they still put their trust in deities instead of using technology to scrap criminals out of their Kingdom. Crime headquarters 🙄”

@Phiehaat: “Mtcheew, dem never ready. Curse no dey catch Hausa talk less of Fulani 😂. When they are ready they will look for a way to counter these cause the government are not ready to do anything 😩”

@SeaJustified: “Sadly, corrupt politicians are majorly responsible for the reason they are cursing criminals, kidnappers, etc.”

@Bomberuli: “After this rubbish kidnappers will be going to Benin more🤣 this is not the first time they have done this. It’s not working. Benin land itself is land of blood. Police and army even hunters can do better.”

@TimothyNwachu18: “Them do one last year against cultism… yet killing in Benin continues 🤩”

@missy_ada2: “The similar past ceremonies in Benin have not noticeably reduced crime, we should focus on government accountability for security and intelligence operations.”

@fjnl_fashion: “Curses wey no go touch anybody.”

@Okadigbochief: “When will this country be serious?”

@Addictume: “While at it they should add that animal that flies at night.”
