French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have been crowned champions of Europe after winning the UEFA Champions League final, beating Arsenal 4-3 on penalties on Saturday evening, News.ng reports.
The match ended 1-1 after the regulation 90 minutes and progressed to extra time. However, after 30 additional minutes, both sides were unable to find the back of the net, resulting in a penalty shootout.
Arsenal’s hopes dimmed after Eberechi Eze missed the Gunners’ second penalty.
The shootout was levelled after PSG’s Nuno Mendes missed his kick, making the score 2-2.
The Gunners ran out of luck after Gabriel Magalhães missed Arsenal’s fifth penalty, allowing PSG to retain the trophy under Luis Enrique. Lucas Beraldo wasted no time in sending goalkeeper David Raya the wrong way to seal the Parisian club’s victory at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary.
