Reno Omokri has replied Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, following their heated exchange over the singer’s recent message on a global platform.
Omokri said he was shocked by Davido’s response, especially the use of insulting words, describing the singer as an international celebrity whom Nigeria is proud of and who should not reduce public debate to vulgar attacks.
The former presidential aide explained that his criticism was not meant to attack Davido personally, but to caution him against using international platforms to give publicity to bandits and terrorists.
According to Omokri, even when the intention is to pressure the government, publicising terrorist activities on a global stage can help spread fear, boost recruitment, attract funding, and worsen hostage situations.
He compared Davido’s action with that of American streamer IShowSpeed, who, according to him, used the same global moment to promote Nigeria positively by wearing a Nigerian jersey and speaking well of the country.
Omokri also dragged Peter Obi into the matter, claiming that Peter Obi praised Davido’s action and may have influenced the singer’s decision to defend him.
He further argued that celebrities in countries like the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada do not usually use major global events to speak publicly about hostage situations because of the security risks involved.
Citing the Chibok girls’ abduction, Omokri claimed that global publicity made rescue efforts more difficult after Boko Haram allegedly separated the girls into different camps.
He maintained that publicity remains “the oxygen of terrorism” and urged public figures to be more careful when speaking about sensitive national security matters.
