SDP Begins Upload of Governorship, State Assembly Candidates to INEC Portal

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has commenced the upload of its governorship and State House of Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party disclosed that the exercise began on Saturday after it successfully completed the upload of its presidential and National Assembly candidates.

Speaking on the development, the SDP National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Ayenigba, said the process was progressing smoothly without any challenges.

According to him, the timeframe provided by INEC enabled the party to recover from delays encountered during the initial stage of its nomination exercise.

“We commenced the exercise on Saturday after the successful completion of the presidential and National Assembly candidates.

“The window given to the political parties by INEC actually assisted us in covering the lost ground experienced at the initial stage.

“The governorship and State Assembly candidates’ upload is in top gear. We have no problem at all. Our trained staff are working round the clock to meet the commission’s deadline. We are very comfortable with the exercise,” Ayenigba said.

He commended INEC for the conduct of the exercise, expressing confidence that the commission would sustain what he described as a transparent process.

Ayenigba said the party hoped the electoral body would continue to ensure a credible electoral process that would culminate in peaceful and widely accepted elections.

The SDP spokesperson also urged party members across the country to remain calm, maintaining that the party had resolved its internal challenges.

He stated that the party is now united under the leadership of its National Chairman, Professor Abubakar Sadiq Gombe, adding that its participation in the ongoing candidate upload exercise was a clear indication that the crisis within the party had been resolved.
