Nigerian striker, Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei has officially begun life at Portuguese champions SL Benfica Feminino after taking part in her first training session with the club following the completion of her transfer.

The teenage forward, who joined Benfica from Hallelujah FC Ladies of Lagos on a long-term contract running until 2028, has also been handed the club’s No. 24 jersey.

Her arrival at the Portuguese giants marks a significant milestone after a challenging 18 months that saw her European ambitions threatened by injury, a stalled move to Barcelona, and a passport controversy that attracted widespread attention earlier this year.

Now settled in Lisbon, the young Nigerian says she is fully focused on making the most of the opportunity at Benfica.

“Yes, I’m back and better, and ready to give my best to the best team in the world, Benfica. Training was good today. I met all the coaches, players and the rest of the team, and it’s a great privilege to start a new life here,” she said.

Akekoromowei’s first training session signals the beginning of a new chapter in her career as she looks to establish herself with one of Europe’s leading women’s football clubs.
