The Senate has confirmed Dr. Abdullahi Saidu as the Executive Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), alongside six members of its board.
The confirmation followed the consideration of a report by the Senate Committee on Finance, presented by its Vice Chairman and Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Olalere Oyewumi, representing Osun West.
Presenting the report, Oyewumi said the committee had examined the nominees’ credentials, professional experience and suitability for the appointments.
He described the commission as a critical institution for promoting fiscal discipline and ensuring effective management of public finances.
Oyewumi said the committee was satisfied with the nominees’ qualifications and professional backgrounds, adding that some had obtained letters of attestation from their former employers affirming their competence and suitability.
He also highlighted Saidu’s experience in revenue administration, fiscal oversight and governance reform.
The Senate subsequently confirmed all seven nominees through voice votes after considering their nominations individually.
The confirmed board members are Muhammad Asmau Mai-Eka (North-West), Muhammad Aliyu Makama (North-Central), Suleiman Gidado (North-East), Louis O. Ndukwe (South-South), Amechi Ugwele (South-East) and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola (South-West).
