The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday passed constitutional amendments to establish state police in the country, News.ng reports.
This news platform reports that the process began with manual voting after each clause of the constitutional amendment was read out.
Present during the voting were the Chief of staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani.
Others included the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and his Ondo State counterpart, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Recall that on June 11, the House of Representatives voted in favour of a constitutional amendment bill for the establishment of state police across the country—a major step in the nation’s history that will empower state governments to establish their own police forces and exercise control over security in their respective states.
