Born in Camas, Seville, Ramos began in Sevilla’s youth academy and played two seasons with their senior team before joining Real Madrid in 2005. At Madrid, he won 22 major trophies, including five La Liga and four Champions League titles, and was named to the Champions League Team of the Season each time Madrid won. Ramos began dating journalist and presenter Pilar Rubio in September 2012, and they appeared together at the Ballon d’Or ceremony that year. They have four sons: Sergio, Marco, Alejandro, and Máximo Adriano. Ramos and Rubio got engaged on 16 July 2018 and married in Seville on 15 June 2019.

Ramos maintains close relationships with his family, particularly his siblings and parents. His brother Rene serves as his football agent and is married to singer Lorena Gómez. Ramos is an enthusiast of bullfighting and is friends with bullfighter Alejandro Talavante. In January 2019, Amazon Prime and Ramos announced an eight-episode documentary series about his life on and off the field, titled El Corazón de Sergio Ramos (The Heart of Sergio Ramos).
