A Nigerian Catholic priest, Prince Chidi Philip, has advised Christian couples, particularly Catholics, to follow their traditional marriage with a Church wedding.
The priest shared the position on social media, saying it was an issue he would continue to speak about even if it made some people uncomfortable.
According to him, Christians should not consider a traditional marriage ceremony as the final step in getting married.
“As a Catholic priest, this is one point I will continue to insist on, even if it makes some people uncomfortable.
If you are a Christian, especially a Catholic, you should not stop at traditional marriage. After your traditional marriage, you should proceed to the Church for your Church wedding.”
Prince Chidi Philip further made a claim concerning couples who begin marital relations after their traditional marriage without first having a valid Catholic Church marriage.
“As a Catholic, sleeping with your wife after conducting a traditional marriage without a valid Church marriage is still considered a mortal sin.”
