In a deadly car accident that happened on Monday in the Olorunsogo, Leme area of the Abeokuta South Local Government, Ogun State, two persons have been officially declared dead.
A black TVS motorcycle with registration number AYT 837 QU and a black Lexus automobile with registration number KJA 398 JR collided at approximately 5:45 p.m.
Witnesses have reported that a speeding Lexus collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the instant de@th of the motorcyclist after he sustained a severe head injury.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, Afolabi Odunsi, disclosed that six persons were involved in the crash, out of which two lost their lives.
Odunsi attributed the cause of the crash to speed violation, underscoring the persistent danger of excessive speeding on Nigerian roads.
He explained that FRSC rescue operatives received the distress call at 5:50 p.m. and arrived at the scene by 5:55 p.m., responding within five minutes.
He said a total of six adult males were involved in the crash, out of which two adult males lost their lives, while no injuries were recorded among the remaining persons.
He noted that FRSC rescue personnel evacuated the victims and deposited the bodies of the deceased at the State Hospital, Ijaye Mortuary, while also recovering personal belongings including an identity card and a Tecno mobile phone.
He quoted the Sector Commander, CC Oludare Ogunjobi, as having commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged all motorists, particularly drivers and motorcyclists, to strictly obey speed limits, remain vigilant, and avoid dangerous driving behaviours.
Ogunjobi emphasised that speeding significantly reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment and prompt rescue services, while encouraging members of the public to promptly report road traffic crashes and emergencies through the FRSC’s toll-free emergency line.
