The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has advised corps members in Oyo state to strictly comply with the curfew imposed by the state government.
The Oyo State Government on Monday announced a 16-hour curfew across 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park as part of efforts to address emerging security concerns in the affected communities.
The curfew will take effect from Wednesday, June 24, and will run from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. for an initial period of 48 hours.
The directive was announced in a memo issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.
In a statement by the Head of Information and Public Relations Unit, NYSC, Oyo State, Mrs Abimbola Faniyi, on Wednesday in Ibadan, corps members in the state were advised to stay indoors within the curfew hours.
Faniyi quoted the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Kayode Peters, as saying the advice was in the interest of public safety, security, and the preservation of law and order across the state.
Peter said that the management acknowledged the concerns and apprehension expressed by some corps members after the curfew announcement, describing the reactions as understandable given the circumstances.
He reassured all corps members that there was no cause for alarm, as relevant security agencies were working with the state government to protect lives and property.
The coordinator advised corps members, especially those in affected areas, to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while obeying all government and security directives without exception.
“Adherence to the curfew is both a civic obligation and a necessary precaution to safeguard residents, including corps members, from harm,” he said.
Peter reassured parents, guardians, and families that the NYSC management was in constant contact with stakeholders and closely monitoring developments with government and security agencies.
He added that every necessary step was being taken to ensure the continued safety and welfare of corps members throughout Oyo State during the curfew period.
The coordinator urged corps members to remain focused on their service responsibilities, exercise caution, and cooperate fully with constituted authorities in spite of the temporary inconveniences caused by the curfew
