The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has expressed sadness over the death of Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Hamza Al-Madani, a Muazzin of the Grand Mosque, Masjid Al-Haram, in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani died on Monday, September 21, 2026, after reportedly raising his final Adhan, or call to prayer, at the Sacred Mosque.
In a condolence message issued on Tuesday and signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka on behalf of the Sultan’s media team, Sultan Abubakar described the death as a painful loss to the Muslim Ummah, particularly worshippers who had been blessed by the late Muazzin’s service at the Sacred House of Allah.
The Sultan said the circumstances surrounding Al-Madani’s final Adhan offered a profound reminder of the transient nature of life and the honour of dedicating one’s life to the service of Allah and His Sacred House.
He commended the deceased for his years of service to Islam, noting that he began serving as a Muazzin at the age of 15 at a neighbourhood mosque in Madinah while pursuing his education.
According to the Sultan, Al-Madani was later formally appointed as a Muazzin at Masjid Al-Haram in 1439 AH, corresponding to 2017–2018, following years of service in Madinah.
Sultan Abubakar also recalled that the late Sheikh was raised in a religious family and was introduced to the Adhan from an early age.
His paternal grandfather, who was a memoriser of the Qur’an, reportedly played an important role in his religious upbringing.
The Sultan said Al-Madani’s journey from serving at a neighbourhood mosque in Madinah to becoming a Muazzin at Masjid Al-Haram reflected a life dedicated to worship and service to Allah.
He prayed Allah to forgive the deceased, accept his good deeds and reward him abundantly for his service in calling the faithful to prayer at the Sacred House.
He also prayed for Allah to grant Al-Madani Al-Jannatul Firdaus and give his family, colleagues, the custodians and servants of Masjid Al-Haram, as well as the wider Muslim Ummah, the fortitude to bear the loss.
The Sultan urged Muslims to continue praying for the deceased and draw lessons from his life of service and devotion.
“May Allah SWT envelop Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani in His infinite mercy, illuminate his grave, raise his ranks among the righteous and grant him a place in Jannatul Firdaus,” he said.
He added, “May Allah also reward him for every Adhan he raised, every prayer he called the faithful to, and every service he rendered at the Sacred House of Allah.”
The Sultan extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, colleagues, the people of Saudi Arabia and Muslims around the world.
“May Allah SWT grant us all a righteous ending and make our final words upon this earth words of faith and submission to Him. Amiin,” he prayed.
