Tension as suspected poisoning kills nine cattle in Plateau

Nine cattle have been confirmed dead, while three others are in critical condition, following a suspected poisoning incident in Rakum village, Kassa District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama on his X handle, troops of Sector 4, Operation Safe Haven, responded at about 16:25 hours on April 18 after receiving a report that cattle belonging to one Dauda Jalo had fallen ill and died under suspicious circumstances.

On arrival at the scene, the troops reportedly found nine cattle already dead, while three others were still struggling for survival after allegedly grazing on a suspected poisonous substance within farmlands in the community.

The incident has raised concern among residents over possible deliberate contamination of grazing areas, with fears that it could heighten tensions in the affected community.

Security sources said investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of death and identify those responsible.
