Terrorists flee as troops rescue 22 kidnap victims in Niger

Terrorists fled and abandoned 22 kidnapped victims after troops engaged them during an operation in Muchiya village, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.

The operation was carried out at about 2:30 pm on September 15, 2026, by troops of 18 Brigade, Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD, following reports of terrorist activities in the area.

According to security analyst, Zagazola Makama, the troops moved to the location and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to flee and abandon the victims.

“A total of 22 kidnapped victims were rescued during the operation,” the report stated.

One of the victims sustained injuries and was evacuated to a hospital for medical attention.

The troops also recovered three motorcycles believed to have been used by the terrorists.

The rescued victims were later handed over to the leadership of the Muchiya community for further action and reunification with their families.
