Nigerian actress and content creator Oluwabukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, popularly known as Kiekie, has recounted a disturbing experience she allegedly encountered while filming content in Lagos.
The actress shared the experience during the second panel session of the Creative Powerhouse Summit, where she spoke about some of the challenges creatives face while working in different locations across the country.
According to Kiekie, she had just finished recording a one-minute video in Obalende, Lagos, and was getting ready to leave when a group of men reportedly blocked the garage and demanded money before allowing her team to drive out.
She revealed that the men initially demanded ₦1 million. However, after lengthy negotiations and repeated pleas, she said she eventually paid approximately ₦700,000 to resolve the situation.
Kiekie expressed shock over the amount, particularly because the content they had produced lasted only about a minute.
“After going back and forth, I begged them, begged them, I used my mommy to beg them, used my daddy to beg them, I ended up paying something around 700,000. Yes, for a one-minute video,” she said.
Beyond the financial demand, Kiekie said the growing crowd around her during the incident made the situation even more frightening.
She also recalled another production experience in the Kara area, beyond Berger, where her team had to spend nearly ₦500,000 on security.
According to her, the money was needed to ensure the crew could work safely and complete the shoot without disruption.
Her account highlights some of the unexpected difficulties content creators and filmmakers can encounter when producing visual content in public spaces, particularly when security concerns and location-related demands arise.
