Three Nigerian soldiers killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State have been laid to rest.
The soldiers died on Saturday, June 20, 2026, when the explosive device detonated as troops were heading to Bargaja community following an early morning invasion by armed bandits.
The attack forced residents to flee the community and seek military intervention.
Reports not THE WHISTLER alleged that the attackers planted the explosive device along the route before the arrival of security personnel.
Speaking during the funeral prayers for the fallen soldiers on Tuesday, Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Engr. Idris Muhammad Gobir, who represented Governor Ahmed Aliyu, condoled with the families of the deceased and commended their sacrifice.
“They lost their lives in the line of duty, while protecting the lives and property of the community from the threat of criminal elements.
“We pray that Allah forgives them, grants them Aljannatul Firdausi, and gives their families and the military the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.”
Gobir reaffirmed the state government’s support for security personnel battling insurgents and bandits across the state.
“The Sokoto State Government continues to stand with our security personnel in the fight against insurgents and bandits.
“We will keep providing the necessary support to troops to ensure peace returns to our border communities,” he said during the ceremony held at Giginya Barracks in Sokoto.
