Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recorded fresh successes against terrorists in the North-West, rescuing kidnapped victims, foiling an abduction attempt and arresting suspected terrorist logistics suppliers in coordinated operations across Zamfara, Katsina and Kebbi states.

The military said the operations, carried out on 19 and 20 July, underscore its sustained offensive against terrorist and criminal networks in the region.

In Zamfara State, troops responded to a distress call from residents of Shiyan Abiyola in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area after terrorists attempted to abduct civilians from a residence.

The swift intervention forced the attackers to abandon the operation and flee, leading to the rescue of several residents. Troops subsequently secured the area to prevent further attacks.

In a separate operation in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, troops rescued three kidnap victims who escaped from a terrorist hideout during a heavy downpour while their captors slept.

The victims had been abducted on 14 July while working on their farms in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State and have since been handed over to the appropriate authorities for reunification with their families.

Meanwhile, troops conducting a routine stop-and-search operation in Kebbi State intercepted a vehicle transporting 10 motorcycles suspected to be destined for terrorist groups.

Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of four additional suspects believed to have been sent to receive the motorcycles on behalf of a known terrorist collaborator.

The suspects and the recovered motorcycles remain in military custody pending further investigation.

“The Theatre Command commends the troops for their vigilance, professionalism and swift response in denying terrorists freedom of action,” the military said.

It also praised members of the public for their continued cooperation with security agencies.

“We also appreciate members of the public for their continued support and timely provision of credible information, urging citizens to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies as ongoing operations continue to degrade terrorist and criminal networks across the theatre,” the statement added.
