Two serving Nigerian Army personnel have been taken into custody over their alleged participation in an unauthorised military deployment during the wedding of content creator Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and TikTok star Jarvis.
The soldiers were reportedly arrested after military authorities received intelligence suggesting they took part in security operations at the celebrity wedding held in Lekki, Lagos, last weekend according to SaharaReporters.
An internal investigation has since been launched to determine how they became involved.
Army begins investigation
According to reports, the arrests were carried out on Tuesday morning.
The soldiers were identified as Private Onasanya Ifeoluwa and Private Ukpai Onyinyechi.
Both are attached to the 81 Division Medical Services and Hospital (81DMSH) in Obalende, Lagos.
A military source said investigators are examining whether the two acted independently or whether other personnel were involved in the alleged unauthorised assignment.
The source added that the inquiry is still at a preliminary stage and more information will emerge as the investigation progresses.
Viral videos raised questions
The investigation followed the circulation of several videos from the wedding, which showed individuals wearing Nigerian Army uniforms carrying out security-related duties at the venue.
One of the clips that attracted widespread attention allegedly showed a soldier escorting TikTok personality Ivanna through the crowd while restricting access to people around her.
The footage sparked debate on social media, with many Nigerians questioning why serving soldiers appeared to be providing security at a private celebrity event.
The wedding of Peller and Jarvis attracted a large gathering of entertainers, digital creators and social media personalities, making it one of the most talked-about events of the weekend.
However, attention later shifted from the celebration to the presence of uniformed military personnel after multiple videos surfaced online showing them controlling movement and escorting guests.
The Nigerian Army has consistently maintained that serving soldiers are not permitted to undertake private security assignments or participate in deployments without official authorisation.
