Former Chelsea striker, Chris Sutton, has claimed that Arsenal were “robbed” in their 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Viktor Gyokeres and Julian Alvarez both successfully conceded penalties either side of the interval.
With the game still finely poised, referee Danny Makkelie pointed to the spot after Eberechi Eze went over in the area.
But Makkelie was advised by VAR to review the incident and he eventually overturned his decision.
“Arsenal have been absolutely robbed this evening,” Sutton said on BBC Radio 5.
“People can argue the merits but everybody watching the game tonight, you can talk about Arsenal’s display and what they lacked and what they didn’t do.
“But Arsenal would be an unbelievable position going into the tie at the Emirates next week and now they have a lot of work to do.”
