US Central Command said the latest strikes targeted Iranian military command centres, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and air defence systems. It said American forces had helped about 900 commercial vessels carrying 450 million barrels of crude oil transit the strait since early May.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said “massive fires” broke out aboard two tankers following an explosion and that their crews were being evacuated. It warned that “as long as America’s evils continue in the region, the Strait of Hormuz will be closed.”
