The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticised the presidential ambition of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Peter Obi, questioning his capacity to govern Nigeria.
Wike made the remarks during a town hall meeting in Abonnema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, on Thursday, November 5, 2026.

The minister took a swipe at the former Anambra State governor, suggesting that his popularity on social media did not translate into the leadership qualities required to become Nigeria’s president.
He also mocked Obi’s habit of carrying his own bag, arguing that the gesture did not demonstrate his ability to govern the country.
Wike said, “If you want who’ll become the president of social media, vote for Peter Obi, but when we’re talking about the president of Nigeria, don’t vote for him. Peter Obi thinks carrying his bag by himself gives him the capacity to rule Nigeria.”
The FCT minister’s comments come amid ongoing political exchanges involving Obi and other political figures ahead of the 2027 general election.
