The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Economic Affairs, Tope Fasua, has said that Nigeria should not be described as a poor country, but rather a nation facing a deep inequality crisis.
Speaking on the state of the economy, Fasua argued that wealth exists in Nigeria, but it is unevenly distributed among citizens.
He pointed to recent developments in the aviation sector as an example, noting increased ownership of private jets among wealthy individuals in the country.
According to him, this reflects rising wealth concentration at the top rather than widespread poverty.
“Nigeria is not a p00r country; we only have an inequality cr!sis. The other time, Mr Aliko Dangote had said he couldn’t find where to park his private jet at the airport, meaning more people are buying private jets,” Fasua said.
The statement has already generated conversations online, with many Nigerians debating whether the country’s core challenge is poverty or unequal distribution of resources.
