We’ve built 3,000km roads, 10,000 classrooms across Bauchi — Bala Mohammed

….Bauchi becoming competitive destination for investors —

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, has disclosed that his administration brought about infrastructure and economic reforms, including the construction of more than 3,000kilometer roads and 10,000 classrooms, as well as investment deals worth billions of dollars.

Mr Mohammed, who disclosed this while speaking at the 2026 Annual Retreat of the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, in Bauchi, said the state is emerging as a competitive destination for investors.

The governor said his administration had deliberately positioned the private sector as a major driver of Bauchi’s economic transformation, with reforms aimed at reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks, improving the ease of doing business and attracting investment into the state.

According to him, the administration’s development agenda is anchored on the Bauchi State Development Blueprint, which focuses on massive infrastructure development, improved social services and the creation of a prosperous economic environment driven increasingly by private-sector participation.

Mr Mohammed said his administration was working to reduce the state’s dependence on federal allocations by opening up its agricultural, solid mineral and tourism potentials to domestic and international investors.

He said the government had institutionalised reforms designed to eliminate bureaucratic obstacles and strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors.

“We have taken several measures, which include the institutionalisation of reforms to remove bureaucratic bottlenecks and foster public-private collaboration,” he said.

The governor added that the state had also taken steps to eliminate multiple taxation and streamline fees and levies imposed on entrepreneurs to make it easier for businesses to operate.

He said the Bauchi State Investment Promotion Agency had equally been empowered to function as a one-stop shop for local and international investors seeking to establish businesses in the state.

Mr Mohammed said the administration’s investment drive had already yielded significant results, pointing to the 2025 Bauchi State Economic and Investment Summit, where multi-sector memoranda of understanding worth billions of dollars were secured.

According to him, the agreements covered key sectors including agriculture, solid minerals and energy infrastructure.

He said the government’s infrastructure drive had also transformed the physical and social landscape of the state, citing the construction of more than 3,000kilometer roads and over 10,000 classrooms, alongside more than 1,000 functional toilets.

The governor said the scale of the projects reflected a deliberate attempt to move Bauchi away from what he described as the traditional model of governance towards a modern state capable of competing with other subnational governments.

“We have moved from the kind of traditional discourse that we have to a modern state that is competing handsomely with our counterparts at the subnational level,” he said.

He, however, stressed that infrastructure and public policies alone could not deliver sustainable economic development without a transparent and efficient system for registering and regulating businesses.

Mr Mohammed said this was why stronger collaboration between the Bauchi State Government and the CAC was necessary, particularly in creating a structured business environment capable of generating reliable data on enterprises operating in the state.

He said accurate corporate data would enable the state government to broaden its tax base, identify genuine micro, small and medium enterprises and design targeted interventions for businesses.

The governor also praised the CAC for what he described as a remarkable transformation under its management, particularly its transition from manual registries to advanced digital platforms.

He commended the commission’s Registrar-General, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN, and his management team for deploying technology to accelerate business registration, name reservation and certificate issuance.
