Nollywood actress Lizzy Gold has ignited fresh debate online after sharing her candid views on relationships, marriage, and the role of finances in earning respect.
Speaking during a recent conversation on a movie set, the actress suggested that a man’s financial standing can significantly shape the level of respect he commands in a relationship.
She argued that men are more likely to maintain authority and respect when they earn more than their partners.
According to the actress, a man who chooses a partner with greater financial power may eventually struggle to command the same level of respect, noting that such dynamics can shift over time.
“As a man, if you want to earn respect from a woman, marry someone you’re richer than. If you marry someone richer than you, you’re on your own. She will never respect you.” She said.
Lizzy also revealed her personal stance, stating that she would prefer to marry a man considerably wealthier than she is, as she believes it helps maintain balance and structure in the relationship.

“As for me, I will marry a man who is far richer than me. Even if you marry a woman that is richer than you and she respects you, after sometimes the woman will lose respect for you and you won’t be able to control her again”. She added.
She went on to advise men to be realistic when selecting partners, stressing that financial compatibility should be a key consideration. In her view, individuals should align their expectations with their income level rather than pursuing relationships that may create imbalance or pressure.
“Every man should also have a spec. Your spec should be according to your pocket. You can’t be earning 300 thousand and going for a woman that is earning 500 thousand”. She concluded.
