A retired military officer, General Jafar Mohamed Gajare, has declared his intention to contest the Kebbi South Senatorial District seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gajare obtained his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms in Abuja, saying his decision to enter the race was driven by the need to contribute to national development, particularly in addressing insecurity and strengthening the economy.
He said his over three decades of military service would be brought to bear if elected into the National Assembly.
“By the grace of God, I will be contesting for the position of Senator for Kebbi South Senatorial District,” he said.
Speaking on his agenda, the retired general said insecurity remains a major challenge in Kebbi State and across the country, adding that he would prioritise legislative support for security reforms and economic development.
“My people are faced with a lot of security challenges, so I will ensure that I contribute in that direction. With my experience of 32 years in the military, I believe I have something to offer,” he said.
Gajare dismissed suggestions of internal crisis within the Kebbi APC, saying he maintains a cordial relationship with Governor Nasir Idris. “My relationship with the governor is perfect and cordial. He is loved by his people because of the good work he is doing in the state,” he said.
On opposition politics in the state, including the activities of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Gajare said the APC remains firmly in control, dismissing claims that opposition figures could pose a serious challenge in Kebbi.
