The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI has carried out a precision airstrike on a suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) hideout in the Southern Lake Chad region, reportedly killing several terrorists.
Security sources said the late-night operation followed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) that detected significant terrorist activity around Arenna in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to the sources, the mission commenced at about 10:35 p.m. on 23 July after intelligence indicated that about 50 motorcycles believed to belong to terrorists were moving within the area.
The aircraft reportedly established surveillance before launching a precision strike on a building identified as a terrorist hideout.
Preliminary battle damage assessment indicated that all terrorists inside the targeted structure were neutralised, while three other fighters outside the building were also killed.
The assessment also showed that three suspected terrorists fled the scene after the strike, with the aircraft remaining overhead to monitor the area and engage any fleeing militants if necessary.
Military sources said the operation formed part of the ongoing air interdiction campaign by Operation HADIN KAI aimed at dismantling ISWAP and Boko Haram enclaves, disrupting their movement and limiting their operational capabilities across the Lake Chad region.
The reported casualty figures and operational details have not been independently verified.
