Alimosho Local Government will be the center of attention for Ndigbo in Lagos as the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State General Assembly holds its second edition under the leadership of Chief Leonard Okafor, Oba Ojoto.
The meeting is scheduled for noon at Abesan Stadium, off Gate Bus Stop, along Ayobo/Ipaja Road, Mosan Okumola, Lagos State. The venue was chosen to accommodate the growing membership and to bring the assembly closer to Ndigbo residents in the Alimosho axis.
In an official invitation signed by the President and the Secretary, Comrade Mike Orji, the leadership called on all Ndigbo in Lagos State to attend. The notice, dated July, emphasized that the gathering will focus on peace, unity, and the progress of Igbo people in Lagos.
This will be the second General Assembly since Chief Leonard Okafor was sworn in as President. Stakeholders say the choice of Alimosho reflects his commitment to inclusivity and to ensuring that no Igbo community in Lagos is left out of the conversation.
The agenda for the day includes an opening prayer, breaking of kolanut, reading of minutes of the last General Assembly, the President’s welcome speech, discussions on peace and unity, financial report, AOB, and closing prayer with refreshment. The traditional opening with kolanut underscores the cultural values that Ohanaeze continues to uphold.
Since assuming office, Chief Okafor has been praised for bringing innovative ideas to Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State. His focus on transparency, youth engagement, and grassroots mobilization has re-energized the organization and restored confidence among members.
Observers note that under Oba Ojoto’s leadership, Ohanaeze Lagos has moved beyond ceremonial gatherings to become more proactive on issues of welfare, security, and political participation. His administration has prioritized regular communication with members and direct engagement with government and host communities.
Chief Okafor’s emphasis on peace and unity has also set a new tone. He has repeatedly called for Ndigbo in Lagos to speak with one voice and to build stronger alliances with other ethnic groups. This approach, leaders say, is critical for protecting Igbo interests while fostering harmony in a diverse state like Lagos.
The President’s innovative style is also evident in how the organization now plans its meetings. By rotating venues and using public spaces like Abesan Stadium, more members are able to participate without the usual barriers of cost and distance. It is a practical step that many describe as people-centered leadership.
The Financial Report to be presented at the assembly is expected to reflect this new openness. Members will get a clear account of income and expenditure, in line with Chief Okafor’s promise of accountability and prudent management of resources.
