FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has accused former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi of looting public funds, challenging him to contest the allegations as their political feud intensifies over President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
Wike, who criticised Amaechi over his comments about Tinubu and those supporting his second-term bid, described the former governor as a hypocrite and accused him of mismanaging Rivers State’s resources.
Speaking on the issue, Wike said: “Because I have said I am going to vote for Tinubu, and he has said all those who want to vote for him are thieves, so I am a thief? That’s what he has said.
“But who can be a bigger thief than Amaechi? This is someone who stood on the treasury of a state and looted it and wasted it, buying houses for young girls all over the place. Let him come and challenge me if it is not correct.”
The FCT minister also questioned the ADC’s decision to associate with Amaechi, saying he doubted the former governor’s ability to contribute to improving the country.
Wike further alleged that Amaechi could not account for $39 million reportedly spent on a project that did not exist. He also accused the former governor of selling a state-owned gas company for $380 million.
The minister warned that Amaechi’s remarks could affect his political activities in Rivers State.
“If you continue on this line, it will be difficult for you to campaign in Rivers State. We will not take that. We will not,” Wike said.
He also condemned the description of Tinubu’s supporters as thieves and presidential contenders as madmen, asking: “Who does that in this world?”
